FORTIFIED Roofing in North Carolina — From the Coast to the Mountains

Building codes set the minimum. FORTIFIED goes beyond it. Developed by the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety from decades of real storm-damage data, the FORTIFIED standard strengthens exactly the parts of a roof that fail first in high wind and heavy rain. Cadmus builds FORTIFIED roofing across North Carolina — resilient roof systems engineered for our weather, from the Carolina coast to the mountains.

The service

What makes a roof FORTIFIED

Serving homeowners and property owners across Raleigh, Cary, Apex, Wake Forest, Morrisville, Durham, Holly Springs & the greater Triangle.

Sealed roof deck

A sealed roof deck keeps wind-driven rain out even if the roof cover is lost in a storm — one of the single most effective upgrades for preventing catastrophic interior water damage.

Enhanced fastening

A tighter nailing pattern locks the roof deck to the structure so it resists the uplift that pulls ordinary roofs apart in hurricanes and severe thunderstorms.

Impact- and wind-rated coverings

FORTIFIED roofs use coverings that meet rigorous wind and, optionally, hail-impact ratings — the difference between a roof that survives a storm and one that becomes an insurance claim.

Wind- and rain-resistant edges & vents

Edge detailing and roof vents are upgraded to keep wind-driven rain out and hold the roof's most vulnerable perimeter in place.

Why Cadmus

Why build FORTIFIED in North Carolina

Made for our weather

North Carolina takes hurricanes on the coast, hail and high wind in the Piedmont, and severe storms in the mountains. FORTIFIED is designed for exactly this.

Possible insurance incentives

Many insurers offer premium credits or discounts for a designated FORTIFIED roof. We build to the standard and provide the documentation your evaluator and carrier need.

Resilience that pays off

IBHS studies consistently show most storm claims involve the roof. A stronger roof means less damage, fewer claims, and real peace of mind.

Coast to mountains

From Wilmington and the Cape Fear coast through the Triangle, we build resilient roof systems suited to each region's specific storm risk.

Questions

Common questions

What exactly is a FORTIFIED roof?

FORTIFIED is a beyond-code construction standard from the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS). It strengthens the parts of a roof most likely to fail in a storm — the deck, its fastening, the edges, and the vents — so the roof, and the home under it, has the best chance of surviving severe weather.

Will a FORTIFIED roof lower my insurance?

Often, yes. Many carriers offer premium discounts or credits for a designated FORTIFIED roof, though it varies by insurer and state program. We build to the standard and supply the documentation the process requires; your agent can confirm the specific incentive.

Does a FORTIFIED roof cost a lot more?

The upgrades are surprisingly cost-effective, especially built into a roof you're replacing anyway — and any insurance incentive plus reduced storm risk can offset the difference over time. We'll walk you through the numbers.

Can any roof material be FORTIFIED?

Most common covers — asphalt shingle, metal, and tile — can be part of a FORTIFIED system, as long as the product meets the required wind and impact ratings and the deck, fastening, and edges are built to standard.
